Senator JV Ejercito joined San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez and Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino in the inauguration of two new pumping stations in the city of San Juan on Monday.
Inaugurated were the pumping stations in Barangay Salapan and Barangay Rivera, two of the flood-prone areas in San Juan during the previous typhoon season.
Sen. Ejercito said the two new pumping stations will help resolve the problems on flooding in the city.
“Ito pong pumping station na ito ay ilang taon nating binuno para matupad at masagawa, at ako ay nagpapasalamat sa MMDA sa pangunguna ni Chairman Tolentino dahil matapos ang ating pagsisikap ay natuloy na rin ang proyektong ito bilang pagpapakita ng ating pagmamahal sa San Juan,” Sen. Ejercito said.
The senator said when San Juan inaugurated the first pumping station in Barangay Balong Bato, the local residents experienced zero flood even during heavy rainfall, and proved the effectiveness of these experimental flood control projects.
“After 50 to 60 years of experiencing flood in Balong Bato, ngayon lang naranasan ng mga tao ang makitang walang baha sa Balong Bato kahit na may bagyo,” Sen. Ejercito said.
Mayor Gomez meanwhile, encouraged the local residents, particularly the barangay officials, to take good care of the flood control facilities in their areas to maintain its tip-top condition and serve its purpose during the rainy season. (END)
