Senator JV Ejercito is seeking to modernize the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA) so that the agency can provide the most accurate and updated data to help the public prepare for natural disasters.

In his PAG-ASA modernization bill (Senate Bill 842), Ejercito is pushing for the agency to acquire state-of-the-art weather and geophysical equipment and facilities.

Ejercito said it is high time for the agency to be updated amid the fast-paced climate change.

“The government should not overlook the crucial role of PAG-ASA in averting destruction brought by unforeseen natural disasters from floods to thunderstorms to typhoons, to landslides, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions,” Ejercito said on his bill.

“We should find ways to make sure that PAG-ASA is not ‘under the weather’ when it comes to the application of technologies to improve its capabilities in providing timely and reliable weather forecasting and warning services for agriculture, transportation and other industries across the country,” he said.
