Aside from adjusting the age bracket to 18 to 25 years old, Senator JV Ejercito stressed that a rigid youth development training that inculcates volunteerism and love for country should be incorporated in the modules of youth leaders, to make them devoid from work delinquency in the Sangguniang Kabataan.

Ejercito pushed for these provisions as the Senate Committee on Local Government tackled his measure that seeks to reform the Sangguniang Kabataan system (Senate Bill 68).

He raised this issue since most of the SK meetings and trainings are now held at five-star hotels, and are lax in indoctrinating the purpose of youth representation in government.

“There is nothing wrong with these meetings,” Senator Ejercito said. “We want to give the best for our youth, but we should enhance the module so that our SK leaders would have the heart to serve and love the country. Maybe we can look into the module of the Kabataang Barangay, which produced good leaders.”
