During my visit in Surigao del Norte, I took time to visit their airport to see the actual damage in its runway.
Engr. Raul Gardioso from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) briefed me and the local officials led by Governor Sol Matugas prior to the actual inspection.
As Vice Chair of the Committee on Finance assigned to defend DOTr’s budget, I assured the local officials and the people of Surigao my commitment to help in the fast tracking of the rehabilitation and the eventual upgrading of their airport.
In February of 2017, an earthquake shook the region that damaged the airport’s facilities. The quake prompted the CAAP to suspend Surigao City airport’s operation to ensure the safety of everyone.
