Action On Education
1. ENSURE ACCESS OF THE FILIPINO YOUTH TO QUALITY HIGHER EDUCATION BY DEVELOPING REGIONAL EDUCATIONAL HUBS.
Improve access to quality higher education by pushing for legislation that mandates the development and maintenance of quality state universities and colleges in at least every region.
Proximity is an important factor in improving access to quality higher education. The lone district of San Juan hosts one of the country’s 436 state universities and colleges, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines-San Juan Campus. The dream is to ensure access of the youth to quality tertiary education in every region of the country.
2. SUSTAIN DRIVE FOR ANNUAL INCREASE IN SUCs BUDGETS.
Continue to work for the necessary increase in government funding for SUC’s to improve the quality of tertiary education.
The budget for SUC’s was raised significantly from P26.1 billion to 37.1 billion. It can be partially attributed to our persistence in congress to increase government funding in education. There is a need to increase the competitiveness of SUC’s vis-à-vis private higher educational institutions by providing financial support. Hence, it is necessary for SUC budgets to increase annually so that these institutions can hire qualified professionals, competent administrative staff and retain those who are already in the rolls.
3. WORK FOR LEGISLATION THAT INVESTS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FILIPINO YOUTH FOR LEADERSHIP & NATION-BUILDING.
Empower the youth through a comprehensive development agenda that focuses on key areas such as business, leadership and nation-building.
The youth is an integral sector in society. Through the Sangguniang Kabataan, young people are empowered to get involved in key development issues and engage them in developing sustainable solutions to the problems that beset society. It is in this light that we fought the move to abolish it. In close coordination with the National Youth Council, Sangguniang Kabataan, Student Councils, and other socio-civic youth organizations, we hope to develop a youth agenda that will further develop and enhance their leadership potential to address social issues in a manner relevant to them.
4. MONITOR K+12 IMPLEMENTATION WITH END-IN-VIEW OF IDENTIFYING IMPROVEMENT AREAS & ENHANCING THE COMPETITIVENESS OF THE FILIPINO SCHOOL CHILDREN.
Improve the quality of implementation of the Basic Education Program through consistent review and ensure its competitiveness on the international level.
Having only been introduced recently as a basic education reform, there is a need to ensure that the program, its curricular demands, and other learning inputs are responsive to the needs of the youth. Hence, there is a need to conduct a yearly review of the program to refine it and incorporate the latest trends and best practices in other countries to make it competitive.
