Still here at the Senate hearing the 2018 proposed budget of the Department of Interior and Local Government and its attached agencies.
My queries were mostly addressed to the Philippine National Police. PNP Chief Bato dela Rosa and I talked about PNP’s wishlist amounting to P14-Billion for the purchase of modern equipment such as choppers, maritime equipment, drones, anti-terrorism equipment, and infrastructure development, among others – all of which we in the committee requested for time to study, and for PNP to identify their priorities.
I also urged our Chief PNP to restore the PNP’s image so they can regain public trust amid killings that involved rogue policemen. I told him that I still believe 90-95 percent of men and women in uniform are still good officers, but that they should weet out bad eggs with an organization as big as the PNP.
