The proposed odd-even scheme along EDSA will definitely lessen traffic but it remains to be a “band-aid solution,” Senator JV Ejercito said Tuesday.

“Immediate lang ‘yan eh and those are not long-term. Siguro magandang pag-aralan odd-even scheme, carpooling probably, siguro may certain hours na ‘pag mag-isa sa kotse mo dapat siguro bawal kasi sayang iyong space,” Ejercito told reporters on the sidelines of a media forum on road safety.

“Siguro carpooling system but these are short-term, band-aid solutions lang ito. I still feel that iyong long-term it’s still the massive infrastructure, railway, with the growing population, there’s no other way that we can move people except mass transit system,” he added.

Quezon City 1st District Representative Vincent “Bingbong” Crisologo on Monday proposed the implementation of an odd-even scheme on EDSA to decongest traffic on the major thoroughfare.

He, however, said that the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or the number coding scheme should still be in place.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) assistant general manager for planning Jojo Garcia said they have already presented the proposal in the last Metro Manila Council (MMC) meeting.

“Nung last MMC meeting nasa agenda namin yan eh, blangko agad eh, hindi nagtagal,” Garcia said.

MMDA chair Danilo Lim vowed to raise the proposal again in the next MMC meeting. —ALG, GMA News
