Senator JV Ejercito today lamented the impunity and lack of justice over the massacre of the fallen 44 Special Action Forces who were mercilessly killed by joint forces of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters a year ago in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

“There can never be lasting peace in Mindanao or with the MILF unless we resolve the Mamasapano incident once and for all. It is lamentable that a year has passed without any strong conviction against those reported liable for the botched operation despite the names dropped by the DOJ and Senate investigations,” Ejercito said.

“Hopefully the reopening of the Senate inquiry regarding the Mamasapano incident with its new ‘evidence’ could help push this agenda of providing justice for the SAF 44 and their loved ones,” he added.

Ejercito likewise lamented that despite the effort and compromises made by the government in order to secure a peace deal with the MILF, all were being rendered futile as the Bangsamoro Basic Law has yet been passed by Congress.
