CITY HALL AND HOUSING PROJECT TO PUSH THROUGH, JV SAYS

Maximum tolerance has been exercised by the Local Government of San Juan with today’s relocation efforts. But regardless of the resistance, the City’s Representative JV Ejercito said that the LGU is determined to push for the completion of its government infrastructure projects.

“There is already a marching order for the demolition to push through today. So there will be no more delays,” Rep. JV said.

With the new City Hall almost done, the lawmaker said that the LGU can now focus on the socialized in-city housing program for the poor, which is the centerpiece of the developmental program of the present administration. But to achieve this housing project, he said that a temporary relocation of the informal settlers is necessary.

This in-city mass housing program that aims to provide decent housing for the poor people of San Juan was proposed by Rep. JV.

Meanwhile, concerning the protests that plagued today’s relocation efforts, he said that the militants are the ones who provoked the violence and injured the relocation team and policemen.

“The militants initiated the violence. We tried to appease them, but they were insistent to hurt and injure the team in-charge of the relocation efforts,” he explained.

Ejercito furthered that the LGU gave the informal settlers notices of resettlement, but were coerced to ignore and take a stand against it because of the professional militant’s influence.

He finally said that this demolition is not a fight between the San Juan City hall versus the urban poor. Rather, he said this is for a better housing program for the San Juaneños and also for the preservation of the heroism of the Filipino through the Pinaglabanan Shrine.
